In 1977, at the time of Her Majesty the Queens’ Silver Jubilee Francesca Stout was attending Wyndham Park Infant School which was then situated at the top of Wyndham Road.
Francesca remembers that the school had a fancy dress day and because her Grandfather ran an Opera Company, her parents had dressed her in items of clothing from costumes worn in various Opera’s. With a Flamenco style skirt, a bolero and a Mantilla head-dress and the addition of a yellow tambourine brought from Joyland in Blue Boar Row (and now ‘The Entertainer’), Francesca spent the day as a Spanish Gypsy Dancer and thinks her delight in the end result inspired a long-standing interest in National Folk Dancing. Francesca was also grateful that she didn’t have to spend the entire day in a red painted cardboard letterbox costume like her friend Lisa Robertson.

Bobbie Chettleburgh and her husband Malcolm ran a small shop in Salt Lane near the Greencroft. Bobbie recalls the street party and celebrations they organised for the Silver Jubilee which took place in Salt Lane and later in the Five Bells public house on the corner of Salt Lane and St. Edmunds Church Street
