We heard from local people about lots of street parties, but we decided to concentrate on Pennyfarthing Street because we had some fantastic photos and memories to go with them.
The mural shows a street party on Pennyfarthing Street – one of many held in Salisbury to celebrate the Coronation in 1953. Pam Sharp recalls:
“I made the roses in crepe paper, enough to decorate the drain pipes throughout the street… Nearly all the children dressed up on the day… After the fancy dress parade everyone sat at tables that stretched the length of the street for a tea party…”
